Shortcut You can also add recipes to the grocery list from the main recipes listing, by right-clicking on a recipe and selecting Add to Grocery List. I've been using Paprika Recipe Manager from Hindsight Labs on my iPad for a couple of months, and I've found it's turned my iPad into an invaluable kitchen tool. The only drawback to the app has been that the iPad's touchscreen keyboard made entering recipes by hand somewhat cumbersome. That won't be an issue anymore, because Paprika Recipe Manager is now available in the Mac App Store. To add an item to the pantry, click the Add Item text field and type in the ingredient name, then hit Enter. • Add custom meal types to the meal planner. Pressing this lets you log out of your account and cancels the sync, if running. While paying for software might seem like some pre-Google anachronism, many of the best Mac applications out there cost just a few dollars and can drastically improve your workflow or your day-to-day computer use — without any privacy concerns or intrusive advertising. And some are so good that they warrant a monthly or annual subscription — especially if they really help you at your job or in a serious hobby like photography. Something to note off the bat: Our general take is that, while Paprika and AnyList both allow you to manage recipes and grocery lists, Paprika is better at the former while AnyList is better at the latter. With AnyList Complete, you do get things like recipe scaling, custom recipe photos (rather than generic icons), the ability to add recipe ingredients straight to your shopping list, importing recipes from the web, and a decent amount of recipe organization (recipes are tagged/filed in “Collections” for easy browsing later).
